They are asking me for my marital status twice
I bought a house which was registered in my name and that of my recently deceased husband. I have put the house up for sale, and indicated at the deeds office that I was widowed. Now they are asking me for my marital status. Why?
Widowed means your husband died. Perhaps they need to establish whether you were married in community of property or out of community, especially where you are joint owners of the property as per the title deed. It is necessary because all that will have to be answered in the final liquidation and distribution account of your late husband’s deceased estate, which may be entitled to a 50 per cent share of the property. That is before the joint property can be correctly disposed off. But there are some unanswered questions. What do you mean by heir. Did your husband leave a will? Were you married in community of property?
