I need a letter from the doctor who treated my mother. How can I get this?
I am being harassed by debt collectors hired by a hospital. My Mom ended up in the intensive care unit (ICU) and was billed 90000 rand which the medical aid refused to pay . Albeit they paid all other expense. The scheme simply wants a letter from the doctor who treated her to explain why the ICU was necessary. He has not been forthcoming despite several requests and even a meeting with hospital. What do I do?
You should e-mail your complaint to the doctor, and copy the hospital and the HPCSA (Helth Professional councils of South Africa). Perhaps that should do the trick. If that doesn’t work I suggest a registered or hand delivered letter copied to the hospital and preferably written by a lawyer. The last resort will be to lodge a formal complaint against the doctor with the HPCSA. Find them here : (http://www.hpcsa.co.za/Public).
