“Body Searching” at correctional facilities
I’m not sure if I chose the right category. I would like to know what is allowed/defined as a “body search” when I visit a Correctional Facililty? The DCS website merely says that “Visitors will be searched before being accompanied to the relevant visiting area.” – what does this actually entail? And are they allowed to search minors and if so from what age?
There have been several reported incidents of visitors smuggling contraband items into correctional facilities. The Correctional centres, I believe, subject visitors to body searches to ensure that illicit items are not smuggled into the facility. Body search in prisons is therefore a procedure carried out by prison officials on a person’s body for illicit items such as knifes, guns, drugs, etc. Minors can as well be searched. Thank you.
