Can I evict a person staying on my property rent free
I have people staying on my property rent free. They do not pay water and electricity either.
They have been staying rent free for many years, however now we are considering selling the property and need them to vacate the premises. There is no lease agreement. Can we give them notice to move and if they have not moved out by that notice period, can we force them off our property.
Yes, you can give them a notice to move by a certain date or face eviction. But evictions have to be legal. Which means you must bring an application to court to have them evicted. They will be given an opportunity to respond. If the application is successful you will be granted a court order to evict. Which means you can then get the Sheriff to forcefully remove them from your premises with their belongings. You will need a lawyer to help you obtain a court order as it involves a court process. All the best.
