My sisters UK estate
My sister passed away on the 29th of November. There was an investigation into her death and because of that no death certificate has been issued. I was in the UK but I could only go for 2 weeks and it was over the Christmas period so I could get very little done with her estate. I would like to know if a South African lawyer can help with notifying the correct people of my sisters death and help me wrap up her estate.
Thank you. A South African lawyer is admitted to practise law in South Africa in terms of the law of the Republic. To answer your question, yes, a South African lawyer can be engaged to notify the relevant UK authority of your sister’s death BUT he or she cannot wind up your sister’s deceased estate held in the UK. The reason being jurisdiction. What you should do is to engage the services of a resident UK solicitor especially in the County where your sister was resident at the time of her death. Thank you.
