Paying outstanding lawyer account
Lawyer assisted me in my divorce case and I now have a outstanding account of R45000. I have paid some and suggested to pay R500 pm. I do not have the money to even pay that but now I received a letter stating he doesn’t except my offer and he is going forward to sew me.
What am I to do?. I don’t have the money. What does the law say in a case like this?
Technically the lawyer can sue you for services rendered if you agreed to his fees. 500 rand a month without interest will take 7 and a half years to pay up. If you think his fees were unreasonably high you can have it taxed. This means you should go to the taxing master at the high court and give them the statement to tax it. They have the power to reject any unreasonable charges and reduce the amount.
