Sudden closure of business due to illness
My mother has her own business, and employs a full time assistant. The assistant have been with her for 10 years. My mother is now ill (sudden illness) and unable to continue with the business. What is the correct procedure to layoff the assistant?
The LRA says that even if there is valid substantive reason, the employee must still be dismissed in a manner that is procedurally and substantively fair. What you can do is to give her a notice in writing and allow her reasonable time to respond.
