Maintenance amount I am paying is a lot can I get it reduced and how?
How is maintenance money calculated and what do they take into account? I am paying R2500 on one child on a net salary of R15000 and have other children in my current marriage to look after on the one end. I am happy to pay maintenance because the child is mine but the figure is taking a toll on me and the rest of the family
The reasonable needs of the child is what the courts take into account. Change of circumstances can be a valid ground on the part of the contributing parent for the variation of an existing maintenance order. Example of this can be loss of job, change in financial situation of the paying parent, additional child(ren), etc. What you can do is to bring a variation application at the maintenance court where your child reside. Your request of the court will be that the existing maintenance order be adjusted/varied to accommodate your financial standing.
