Hello,
It is the child’s entitlement to reasonable maintenence such as food, clothing, dental and medical care, education, etc. What is reasonable will depend on certain factors such as income of parents, cost of living, etc. These duty fall on the shoulders of both parents, and the fact that the father has stronger financial muscle does not free the mother of liability. Because the child is living with you, you are in terms of the law qualified to approach the Maintenance Courts and apply for maintenance order. There is a Maintenance officer at every of the Maintenance Courts. You will be assisted regarding the necessary forms to complete and other procedures. Once a court order is granted instructing a parent to pay child support, it becomes a criminal offence if the parent refuses to pay.
Thank you
