to do or not to do in this case
hi. afriend of mine has been arrested for fraud. she has already admitted to the charges as the evidence against her is very strong. she wants to get the whole thing behind her as fast as possible. she has been offered to become a state witness for the charges against her to be dropped but the trial might drag out for years as it involves much bigger things and more people. she has now been offered a deal for her to plead guilty on a lessor charge for a lessor jail term from 3 years to 18months. what i want to know in this regard is if she gets sentenced within the next 2 to 4 weeks will she be elligible for parole within that 18months and the amnesty application is in feb 2018, will she be able to ask for amnesty then?

Hello, Parole placement or conversion of sentence of an offender is considered individually on own merit. Offender has no right to be paroled, however where an offender has demonstrated during his or her imprisonment that he/she is rehabilitated and unlikely to be a danger to the society, amongst other factors, the Parole Board may recommended such an offender to be released on conditions. My advice is that your friend must consult thoroughly with her lawyer. Thank you.
