Legal fee,s for security deposit
I Paid R14000 toward my security deposit when I moved in agreement was made after 6 months when rent goes up to R8000 we need to pay additional R2000 in 2 parts for security deposit .Landlord send us a lawyers letter after 1 week of not receiving the R2000 for security deposit with a legal fee of R650 .He says it’s lawyers fees. Is this legal?
Many thanks for your enquiry. From your submission it is not clear if you are currently in arrears of the R2000. If you are in arrears then the suggestion is that you catch up a.s.a.p. with your security deposit hence the lawyer’s letter. If however you are still in time terms with the money due then no legal fees are due thus the landlord should not be charging lawyers fees hence it would not be legal.
