Neighbour’s house did not have the approval of the municipality
My former neighbour’s house did not have the approval of the municipality. When he sold, the new neighbour tried to obtain approval, including obtaining my consent as an adjoining neighbour. The structure was built on my boundary and posed a risk in case it falls. It looks unstable. Since then I have not heard anything from him. Furthermore he has installed some bright security lights that shine directly into my bedroom. I dropped a note in his letter box about this but he has ignored it. What shall I do, considering that the structure didn’t obtain municipal approval to begin with?

The neighbour is probably trying to get the plans approved. I suggest you pay a visit to the municipality offices to register a formal complaint and follow it up with letters of enquiry if you get no response. Your complaint should include that of the security lights. If you still get no joy you will have to approach the High Court with an application to compel the municipality to act.
