Agreed and paid settlement of debt, now collection agency want more.
Good Day, I had an outstanding debt, which unfortunately was handed over to a collection agency. I made contact with the agency to best see how the matter could be sorted out. They checked my outstanding amount, offered me a settlement amount, which I agreed to in Mid August 2017. The agreement was for this to be paid by end August 2017, which I duly did. The agency have now come back to me to tell me that the amount agreed was not enough, and that I am to pay more. They have now reversed the whole agreement, and have said the full amount outstanding is now due. They have telephonic recordings of all discussions and agreements which have taken place. Please advise my rights in this situation.
Do you have e-mail or other proof of your agreement? If there was an offer and acceptance then the agency has no right to cancel. Request a copy of the recording if you do not have other proof. Then you should send them an email detailing the agreement. Add that the payment is in full and final settlement as per the agreement. If they persist you are on solid legal grounds if they take any other action.
