I made some errors in my job and I am afraid to be fired
I am a personal assistant to CEO of a company. That is my job designation and that is what I get paid for. However because I am also skilled in accounting and payroll I am often assigned such duties. Recently I made some errors in bookkeeping that resulted in a huge loss to the company. Now there are rumours that I will be fired. I even hear that i will be asked to pay for the loss. The fact still remains that i was doing the bookkeeping outside my job designation for which I earned no extra income. I am really scared.

No action has been taken against you yet, so the first step is to remain calm. You have not even received a warning letter. I suggest you have a chat with the CEO explaining your honest mistake. If they go ahead with a disciplinary hearing, get help from your union or seek advise from a labour lawyer on the charges, or come back to us. You can approach the CCMA if there are any adverse findings including a dismissal. You seem to have a good case.
